چکیده
Perforated unreinforced masonry (URM) walls in out-of-plane (OOP) two-way bending are commonly encountered natural hazard investigations. However, related research is rather limited. This study focuses on the influence of openings capacity URM walls. An experimental database about perforated OOP was created. A brief review results show that arrangement opening area can significantly affect (defined as peak pressure wall net area): when non-covered and non-loaded, higher than its solid counterpart; covered with timber or glass plates loaded rest wall, lower corresponding wall. These observations from experiments were confirmed by an analytical estimation using Yield Line Method (YLM). Next, to capacity, a numerical has been carried out employing 3D simplified brick-to-brick modelling approach. The calibration validation this approach precisely predict crack patterns. By applying validated models, for YLM evaluation confirmed. Further, parametric focusing mainly cases non-loaded conducted. geometric parameters openings, namely, size, shape position investigated different aspect ratios. Results increases size ratio (height width) increase, but it insensitive position. Eventually, based results, equations proposed account considered capacity. comparison Australian Standard (AS3700) indicates incorporate more such shape.

Effective stiffness of unreinforced brick masonry walls
Code design of Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings is based on elastic analysis, which requires as input parameter the effective stiffness of URM walls. Current approaches estimate the effective stiffness as fixed ratio of the gross sectional stiffness but comparisons with experimental results have shown that this does not yield satisfactory predictions. In this paper, a recently developed ana...
متن کاملEffect of Unreinforced Masonry Infill Walls on Seismic Performance of Reinforced Concrete Framed Structures
Unreinforced Masonry infill walls (URM) are commonly used in the Reinforced Concrete (RC) framed structures as interiors and exteriors partition walls. Although they usually are not considered in the structural analysis and design, their influence on the seismic performance of the framed structures is significant. A common practice in the modern and old RC buildings is to remove the URM walls i...
متن کاملFlexural Tension in Unreinforced Masonry
Unreinforced masonry is that in which the tensile strength of the masonry is taken into consideration in design. Allowable out-of-plane tensile stress values are a function of the mortar type, such as Portland cement/lime mortar vs. masonry cement mortar or type M or S mortar vs. type N mortar. The allowable tensile stress is also a function of the masonry construction, such as tension parallel...
متن کاملinvestigating the influence of openings on steel shear walls
steel shear walls, like bracings are a resistance system against wind and earthquake loads, which have more advantages than other systems. this paper is investigating the influence of openings on steel shear walls under increasing static loads. for this purpose, the experiments of other researchers on finite elements method have been checked and after investigating the correctness and precision...
متن کاملTesting unreinforced masonry structures at reduced scale
When testing multi-story structures on a shaking table, most testing facilities require a reduced scale model. Producing scale test units at small scale is particularly challenging for unreinforced masonry structures. Previous work by other researchers showed that scaling of units and mortar joints is mandatory in order to obtain for the reduced scale masonry failure modes, which are similar to...
